Formed in London, England in 1983, Working Week was a jazz pop group with indie
rock roots going back several years. When iconic post-punk group Young Marble
Giants split up, singer Alison Statton formed Weekend in 1981, who released one
album before they, too, broke up. Weekend members Simon Booth (guitar) and Larry
Stabbins (saxophone) formed Working Week. Their first single, “Venceremos (We
Will Win)” (1984), featured guest vocals by Robert Wyatt and Tracey Thorn
(Everything But the Girl). With the addition of full-time vocalist Juliet
Roberts, the group released Working Night...
