Dominican singer, trumpeter, composer, and bandleader widely credited for
popularizing merengue internationally. After studying music from the age of ten,
he launched his professional career with Wilfrido Vargas y sus Beduinos,
releasing his first album in 1972 and quickly establishing himself with hits
