VaShawn Mitchell is a gospel singer born in Harvey, Illinois, on November 19, 1976. He began working with his mentor Lonnie Hunter at St. Mark's Baptist Church, and at age 20 his musical potential was noticed by Bishop Larry Trotter, who hired him as minister of music at Sweet Holy Spirit Church in Chicago. Mitchell went on to produce some of the most talked-about songs in the African-American church, such as "Don't Last" and "My Worship Is for Real".
