Élisabeth Tshala Muana Muidikayi, known as Tshala Muana, was born on May 13,
1958, in Élisabethville (now Lubumbashi), Congo Belge. She was a Congolese
singer and producer celebrated for modernizing the Mutuashi folklore of the Luba
people. At age six, she lost her father and was raised by her mother. Tshala
Muana began her music career in the 1980s with albums like Mbanda matière (1984)
and Kami, Nasi nabali et M'Pokolo (1985). Her breakthrough came with Biduaya
