The Johnson Mountain Boys, a bluegrass band from Washington, D.C., formed in
1975. Initially known as "The Johnson Boys," they changed their name to avoid
confusion with another folk band. Their first commercial release was the single
"Johnson Mountain Hoedown" / "When I Can Forget" in 1978. In 1980, they signed
with Rounder Records and released their self-titled debut album The Johnson
Mountain Boys. The band toured extensively throughout the 1980s, performing at
venues such as Madison Square Garden and Carnegie Hall. They released ten albums
during this period, including Walls ...
