US DJ and production duo the Chainsmokers had a surprise hit with the novelty
song "#Selfie" released in 2014. "#Selfie" was originally offered as a download
giveaway but its potential was spotted by Dim Mak Records who repackaged it and
streamed it through Republic Records. "#Selfie" sold over 60,000 copies,
debuting at number 55 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart and continued to sell well
during the ensuing weeks suggesting tfhe Chainsmokers had pitched the song, its
