The Chad Mitchell Trio, an American vocal group, were formed in 1958 by William Chadbourne "Chad" Mitchell, Mike Kobluk, and Mike Pugh in Spokane, Washington, where they met as students at Gonzaga University. The Chad Mitchell Trio released their debut self-titled album in 1959. They gained attention for their satirical songs addressing contemporary issues such as the Cold War. Notable releases included "Mighty Day" and "Lizzie Borden". In 1965, Chad Mitchell left to pursue a solo career, leading to John Denver joining the group, re-christened as The Mitchell Trio.
