Jazz trumpet, cornet, and flugelhorn player Terumasa Hino was born in Tokyo,
Japan on October 25, 1942. At the age of four, he followed in his father’s
footsteps – literally – and started tap dancing before he took up the trumpet
when he was nine. He began his professional jazz career in the 1950s but didn’t
come to prominence until he joined drummer Hideo Shiraki’s Quintet in 1965. He
stayed with the quintet until 1969 when he left to lead his own band. He had
already released several solo albums during his time with Hideo Shiraki –
