Swell Maps was an English experimental punk and post-punk band formed in
Birmingham in 1972 by brothers Nicholas Godfrey, known as Nikki Sudden, and
Kevin Godfrey, known as Epic Soundtracks, who were later joined by Jowe Head,
Richard Earl, David Barrington, and John Cockrill. Although initially conceived
while the members were still teenagers, the group only began releasing records
at the end of the 1970s in the wake of the punk explosion, which allowed their
