American blues, country, folk and rock singer Steve Earle (born Fort Monroe, Virginia, January 17, 1955) grew up in Texas, then moved to Nashville, where he made his career with his band, The Dukes. His rootsy, committed songs were quickly noticed on his first album, the exemplary Guitar Town (1986). Others followed at regular intervals, making Steve Earle a major songwriter of his time, in the wake of Neil Young and Townes Van Zandt, to whom he dedicated the album Townes (2009).
