A fan of strong symbols, the Renésens group was formed in La Réunion in 1998 to
mark the 150th anniversary of the abolition of slavery. Originally made up of
Dominique Aupiais and her three children Paolo, Morgan and Damien, accompanied
by Jean-Jacques Pifarely, Jérôme M'Bajoumbé and Michel Tsofotandro, the group
owes its name to a locality in Sainte-Suzanne, where the Aupiais family lives.
Dominique, who was originally from Brittany but later moved to Reunion Island,
wanted to combine his two cultures in music, and the group came up with a
