Pelican is an American instrumental post-metal band formed in 2001 in Chicago,
Illinois, by Trevor de Brauw (guitar), Bryan Herweg (bass), Larry Herweg (drums)
and Laurent Schroeder-Lebec (guitar). The band soon signed with independent
label Hydra Head Records, run by Aaron Turner (Isis), and made a name for
themselves with a self-titled EP in 2001. In 2003, they released their debut
album, Australasia, which caught the attention of the underground scene. Their
