Janjay Lowe, known professionally as Mon Rovîa, was born in Monrovia,
Montserrado County, Monrovia, Liberia, and grew up in the United States after
adoption at age seven. He first gained attention by uploading the single "Deeper
Waters" to SoundCloud in 2017, adopting the name Mon Rovîa in honor of his
birthplace. Mon Rovîa released the EP Sunburnt in 2020, followed by the album
Dark Continent in 2021, which blended hip‑hop, trap, R&B, and indie folk. In
