Widely acknowledged as one of the great jazz guitar players of modern times, the
Boston-born guitarist Mike Stern has come through some difficult periods during
his music career and has battled with alcohol and drug abuse. After being
checked into a rehab clinic by his then employer Miles Davis, Stern famously
quipped (in reference to Davis's own well publicised battle with narcotics
addiction), "If Miles wants to put you in rehab, you know you've got something
