L'Rain
Taja Cheek, known professionally as L'Rain, was born and raised in Crown
Heights, Brooklyn. She is an American singer and songwriter who began her
musical journey studying ballet and modern dance at The Ailey School before
picking up bass in high school. In 2017, she released her self-titled debut
album L’Rain on the New York City-based label Astro Nautico, which was included
in best-of-year lists by Pitchfork and Bandcamp Daily. Her second album,
Fatigue, released in 2021 on Mexican Summer, received widespread acclaim,
