Johnny Dowd, born John David Dowd on March 29, 1948, in Fort Worth, Texas, is an
American country musician. He moved to Memphis, Tennessee and later to Pauls
Valley, Oklahoma before settling permanently in Ithaca, New York. In the 1970s,
he formed The Jokers band, which evolved into Neon Baptist. After Neon Baptist
disbanded in 1995, Dowd started recording solo, releasing Wrong Side of Memphis
in 1997. This album led to European appearances and subsequent releases
including Pictures From Life's Other Side (1999), The Pawnbroker's Wife (2002)
