Born John Charles Wiltshire-Butler, in Torrance, California, on April 1, 1975,
singer, guitarist and songwriter John Butler is best known for leading the John
Butler Trio. Born to an Australian father and an American mother, he grew up in
Western Australia, playing a 1930 Dobro given to him by his grandfather. He
began a solo career in the USA in 1994, playing in the band Vitamin. Back in
Australia, he founded the John Butler Trio, which underwent frequent changes of
