American singer of Hawaiian origin, William Guy Tongi aka Iam Tongi, was born in Kahuku on September 1, 2004. He grew up in Washington State and learned to play the ukulele, then the guitar. He signed up for the 20th season of American Idol, but didn't make it through the auditions on his first attempt. He tried again the following year, winning the competition in the final on May 21, 2023. After covering James Blunt's song "Monsters" during the auditions, Blunt joined him for a duet in the final.
