Algerian raï singer Houari Dauphin (real name Siouani) was born on May 10, 1971
in Oran, and grew up with his grandmother in the north-west of the country. He
was only fifteen when he began singing in restaurants and at parties, and
eventually enrolled at the Oran Conservatory to perfect his skills. Gradually,
his reputation grew, and he became one of the most sought-after performers at
