Headpins, a Canadian hard rock band formed in the late 1970s, originated as a
side project by Chilliwack members Ab Bryant and Brian MacLeod. The duo was
impressed by Vancouver rock singer Denise McCann's vocal talents and invited her
to join their new venture. Initially, Matt Frenette played drums for Headpins
while Bernie Aubin drummed for Loverboy; within months, they swapped bands.
Headpins began performing in the Vancouver area throughout 1981, quickly
building a fan base. After McCann left at the end of that year, MacLeod brought
in Darby Mills as lead vocalist.
