Guo Wenjing, born on February 1, 1956, in Chongqing, China, is a notable
composer and educator. He studied at the Central Conservatory of Music in
Beijing starting in 1978 and later led the composition department there. Guo's
international breakthrough came with commissions from festivals like the Beijing
Music Festival and Edinburgh Festival. His works include concertos for erhu and
bamboo flute, and operas based on historical figures such as Li Bai. Notable
