Gianni Morandi, Gian Luigi Morandi in Italian, is a variety singer and actor
born in Monghidoro, Italy, on December 11, 1944. When he wasn't helping his
father sell Italian Communist Party newspapers, he worked as a shoemaker or as a
confectionery salesman in a cinema, but it was music that fascinated Gianni
Morandi as a child. He made his debut at the age of 18, in 1962, with the song
"Andavo a Cento All'Ora". The years that followed saw him score one hit after
another: Ritratto Di Gianni (No. 4 in Italy in 1965), Gianni Tre (No. 2 in
