Fridge was formed in 1995 by school friends Kieran Hebden, Adem Ilhan, and Sam
Jeffers in London, United Kingdom; the trio began as a post‑rock ensemble with
Kieran Hebden on guitar and samples, Adem Ilhan on bass, and Sam Jeffers on
drums. Their first breakthrough came with the Eph album in 1999, which showcased
a rhythm‑heavy sound influenced by krautrock and introduced sampling as a core
