Fates Warning
Celebrated as icons of the progressive metal movement, Fates Warning joined
groups like Queensrÿche and Dream Theater in combining the aggressive punch of
heavy metal with the complexity of progression rock. The group was formed in
1982 in Hartford, Connecticut, with John Arch serving as Fates Warning's
original singer. Arch left the group in 1987, following the release of albums
like the band's 1984 debut, Night on Bröcken, and their 1986 breakthrough,
Awaken the Guardian. His successor, frontman Ray Alder, made his debut with
