An excellent percussion ensemble, Burkina Faso's Farafina is part of the first
wave of African world music. Formed in 1978 by Mahama Konaté, Farafina is better
known for its prestigious collaborations with Peter Gabriel, Ryuichi Sakamoto
and The Rolling Stones than for its own albums. Farafina took part in the
Montreux Jazz Festival in 1985, bringing back the recording Farafina Live at
Montreux Jazz Festival. The 2001 album Kanou is the last known trace of
Farafina, who seems to have disappeared for good.
