Singer and songwriter Édith Lefel was born on November 17, 1963 in Cayenne,
French Guiana, to a Martinican father and a Guyanese mother. Immersed in music
from an early age, she became a backing singer in her brother's band at the age
of 14. She sang in a variety of groups, ranging from Creole rhythms to jazz. In
1984, she met Ronald Rubinel, who became her partner and producer. In 1987, she
joined Malavoi and her career took off. She performed alongside Philippe Lavil
