Kate Joy Smithson, known professionally as Kate Earl, was born in Anchorage,
Alaska, and began her musical journey as a pianist at four, later adding guitar
at seventeen while working at her parents’ gas station. After relocating to Los
Angeles in 2004, she secured a deal with The Record Collection, and her debut
album Fate Is the Hunter was released on 10 May 2005. She adopted the stage name
Kate Earl before the release of her self‑titled EP Introducing Kate Earl (22
