Dorothy Moore, born on 13 October 1946 in Jackson, Mississippi, is an American
singer known for her contributions to soul, gospel, and blues music. Raised by
her great-grandmother, she started singing in the church choir at a young age.
Her early musical training included being a member of the Poppies with Petsye
McCune and Rosemary Taylor while a student at Jackson State University. The
group recorded for Epic Records' Date subsidiary, making it to number 56 on the
