Charlie Elzer Louvin, known professionally as Charlie Louvin, was born on July 7, 1927, in Section, Alabama. He began singing at age eight and started his professional career with his brother Ira as the Louvin Brothers, performing on local radio programs in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The duo gained prominence by adding secular music to their gospel repertoire and became members of the Grand Ole Opry in 1955.
