Carnivore was founded in 1982 by bassist and vocalist Peter Steele in Brooklyn,
New York, United States. The band emerged from the breakup of Fallout, with
Peter Steele’s heavy‑metal background shaping its early direction. Their
breakthrough came with the single "Predator" in 1985, leading to the self‑titled
debut album Carnivore released on 1 November 1985, which showcased a crossover
thrash sound influenced by New York hardcore, Black Sabbath, and early Judas
