Formed in 1988 in Ironbridge, Shropshire, by John Walker (vocals, guitar),
Cancer is a British death and thrash metal band. Renowned for their brutal
style, the band, then completed by Ian Buchanan (bass) and Carl Stokes (drums),
recorded three albums for the Vinyl Solution label, To the Gory End produced by
Scott Burns (1990), Death Shall Rise with guitarist James Murphy (1991) and The
Sins of Mankind (1993), before signing with Warner Bros. bound EastWest for the
groove metal exercise Black Faith (1995), which met with a lukewarm reception.
