Cacophony was a US heavy metal band formed in San Francisco in 1986. The group
featured guitarists Jason Becker and Marty Friedman, known for their extreme
virtuosity and classical influences. Their debut album, Speed Metal Symphony,
released in 1987, showcased an instrumental style blending classical music with
exotic scales. The following year, they released Go Off!. Cacophony disbanded in
1989 due to Becker's diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). After the
split, Friedman joined Megadeth and Becker collaborated with David Lee Roth
before both pursued solo careers.
