British India was formed in 2003 in Melbourne by lead vocalist Declan Melia,
guitarist Nic Wilson, bassist Will Drummond and drummer Matt O'Gorman, who met
at St. Bede's College. Their first single, "Outside 109" (2005), received
Triple J airplay and sparked industry interest. The group issued the EP Counter
Culture (2005) and their debut album Guillotine (30 June 2007); tracks "Black &
White Radio" and "Run the Red Light" entered the Triple J Hottest 100, and the
album earned a 2007 J Award nomination and an AIR Award for Best New Artist.
