Alpinestars was an electronic rock duo formed in Manchester in 1999 by Richard
Woolgar and Glyn Thomas, who had met in 1995 while rehearsing in the same
Manchester rehearsal space. Their early collaboration, initially called “Maxim,”
led to a rapid performance opportunity at a local club, after which they adopted
the name Alpinestars and signed with Faith and Hope Records. The duo debuted
with the limited‑edition EP Las Vegas in August 1999, followed by Silicon Chick
in November 1999 and Kitzbuhel Weekend in March 2000; the latter’s single earned
