311, pronounced three-eleven, are an American rock band from Nebraska who took
their name from the police code for reporting indecent exposure. Their first
independent release was the EP Feels So Good in 1989 and they continued to
release independently until 1992 when they signed to Capricorn Records. Their
first major release was Music in 1993, and although the lead single "Do You
Right" charted at number 27 in Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks Charts, the album
